How to use this site
Subscribe to the Website
This is the best way to keep in touch. Every time we post to the blog, you will get an email notification. Enter your email address and follow the directions. You’ll need to verify through your email that you are signing up! You can always unsubscribe too.
How to Leave Comments
We love hearing from you! At the bottom of each of the days posts you will find a link to add comments. Click on that days comments to leave a message regarding that day.
You will be prompted for a “Name” and an “email” address along with your comment. The email address will not be published, only your comment. The very first comment you leave may have to be approved, but after that, as long as you have the same “Name” and “Email” address (which I believe will be auto filled for you after your first post), your comments will show up immediately. You can also signup with IntenseDebate, which will give you added features when posting comments.
You also have the opportunity to sign up with an add-in to this site and subscribe to a comment, which will enhance your commenting experience. Basically, it will allow you to be notified via email if someone responds to your comment allowing you to proactively interact.
Since we will most likely have internet connections during most of our trip, but you never know. Not all hotels are equal!
You will be able see everyone elses comments. You can also reply to other peoples comments (but only up to 10 levels deep), so be aware of the replay link and who you may be replying to.
So Comment away and have fun with it!
About SPOT
The Trip this year is being tracked by Big Steve’s SPOT SATELLITE MESSENGER, a device that transmits it’s GPS coordinates every 10 minutes to a website. The device also has some nice features because you have several differenet types of messages. One of them is a 911 service – if you need immeditate help (such as an accident or medical emergency), you send a 911 signal and the service will immediately send out help to your location. Another type is the “OK” message to let predetermined email reciepents that you are OK.
The beauty of this device is you can track our trail. The most accurate information is through this link – SPOT TRACKER (which also has a link on the front page of this Blog), but we will be testing out three other types of maps and services that feed off the same info.
To use the maps, just use your mouse and you can drag ithe map around. You can change the map type (map, sat, hybrid) to your preference. You can also use the + and – for zooming.
Now if I can just get the weather info to update based on our current location….. I added a radar map widget on the “Current Location” page near the bottom. Based on the maps above, you can find out where we are and reference the radar map.
